Communications & Digital Content Assistant
Job Summary
The Communications & Digital Content Assistant will support the DWA’s digital presence and communications strategy. This includes developing marketing materials for the Workforce Survey, creating plain-language blog content, supporting promotion for a new Jobs First Durham tools, and maintaining content and graphics for DWA’s online tools. The student will work in Canva, WordPress, and Jobs First Durham’s backend systems to help enhance user engagement and accessibility.
Duties
Digital Marketing & Promotions
• Assist in developing marketing content and outreach materials for the Workforce Survey.
• Create social media posts, graphics, and digital assets using Canva.
• Support the promotion of the DWA's Jobs First Durham suite of tools.
Blog & Website Content
• Draft blog posts, website content, and labour-market content summaries.
• Prepare WordPress-ready graphics under the guidance of the Communications Coordinator.
• Assist with accessibility formatting (alt text, plain language, readability standards).
Jobs First Durham Platform Support
• Support data maintenance and content updates across DWA’s online tools, including job boards, career library, and skills content.
• Prepare and upload graphics, event notices, and tool updates.
General Communications Support
• Track content performance metrics to support continuous improvement.
• Assist with layout, copy editing, and communication planning.
• Contribute ideas for improving digital engagement and public awareness of DWA resources.
Skills
Required:
• Strong written communication skills
• Ability to create visuals using Canva or similar tools
• Basic understanding of social media and digital marketing
• Ability to write clearly for a general audience
• Comfortable learning digital tools and web platforms
Considered an asset:
• Experience with WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, or content scheduling
• Interest in marketing, communications, journalism, graphic design, or public relations
• Familiarity with labour-market or workforce topics
This is a contract position that will run from June 8 to July 31, 2026. It is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must:
a. Be between 15-30 years of age
b. Have a valid SIN
c. Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
