Job Summary
The Workforce Research Assistant will support the Durham Workforce Authority’s annual labour-market research activities, including the Employer Survey, Workforce Survey, priority economic cluster research, and the development of the Local Labour Market Plan. The student will conduct employer outreach research, gather and organize labour market data, support the drafting of analysis, and contribute to the evidence base used by municipalities, employers, and community organizations across the Durham Region.

Job Duties
Employer and Workforce Survey Support
• Research and verify contact information for local business owners, HR managers, and industry leaders.
• Maintain and update employer outreach lists.
• Support data collection for the Employer Survey and Workforce Survey.
• Assist with basic data cleaning and preparation.
Economic Cluster Research
• Support research on Durham Region’s priority economic clusters through environmental scans, literature reviews, and dataset exploration.
• Identify key employers, assets, and workforce trends in each cluster.
• Prepare research notes, summaries, and preliminary data visualizations.
General Research Support
• Assist the Executive Director in the development of the DWA’s annual local labour market plan.
• Maintain organized research documentation and follow DWA’s research strategy.
• Support the Executive Director in preparing labour market reports and/or presentations.

Skills
Required:
• Strong online research ability
• Basic understanding of data sources, statistics, or economic concepts
• Clear written communication skills
• Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources
• Comfort working independently and meeting deadlines

Considered an asset:
• Coursework in economics, business, social sciences, labour studies, public policy, or data science
• Experience with Excel, Google Sheets, or survey tools
• Interest in municipal or regional economic development

This is a contract position that will run from June 8 to July 31, 2026. It is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must:

c. Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
