In order to understand the perspectives of the service sector in Durham Region, the project team conducted a series of one-on-one interviews with key stakeholders and participated in advisory committee meetings with the Horticulture and the Culinary and Hospitality industries. These stakeholders are engaged in the service sector and represent Durham Region businesses and training facilities. An online survey also gathered data from specific businesses and organizations that typically hire individuals in the service sector trades.
The most current source of statistics is 2006 Statistics Canada census data; we recognize that it does not necessarily provide a clear picture of the current labour force. Once the Census 2011 data is released in June 2013, an update will be made to this report.
